We developed a new and efficient method for the synthesis of [2]rotaxanes. Thus, [2]rotaxanes were synthesized by the reactions catalyzed by a macrocyclic Cu(I)-phenanthroline complex. The catalytic moiety of the ring component was located inside the ring so that the rotaxanes could be prepared efficiently. A C-S bond forming reaction and oxidative dimerization of alkyne were utilized.
